Hail good folk
I need some help with languages.
Have been designing a tattoo for a while now and it was suggested to me the wording i wanted be translated from danish to runic instead of english to runic, making the design far more personal to me.
Does anyone know danish???. If so please help. The wording i want isnt too complex. Simply 'honour above all'.
Those curious, the design will be a valknot with a simple scroll in which wil be the wording. I may also have a mjollnir at some point incorparated into the design. Oh before anyone says it, yes i am fully aware of what i'm doing by having a valknot inked into my flesh, and what it represents.
Anyways, hope someone can help me out cuz i'm itching to get it done soon.

An online english to danish translator gave me this:
honorere fremfor alt
But I imagine it would still be best to get a danish speaker to check it out?

I forgot to mention i was hoping for a speaker rather than using an online translator as they can be slighty inaccurate. But thanx anyways.

"honorere fremfor alt" could be a direct translation 1st word: honor (anglofied, but likely accepted modern word) 2nd word: in front of, above, beyond 3rd word: everything, all The real question is, how authentic do you want your Danish to be? I don't speak Danish, but hopefully my knowledge of Swedish and experiences in Denmark can give you some insight. I doubt "honorere" is a traditional Danish word for honor - but it's probably an acceptable modern, anglofied word. The sentence structure looks good. The 2nd and 3rd words seem to be in the proper form. My only unknwn is the first word. I did a little research - the following Danish words translate to honor: honorere, hædre, indløse, acceptere, ære, indfri, hædren, æren. I compared these words to Swedish: hedersord (word of honor), hedra (infinitive form of the verb to honor), ära (honor, as the virtue). Based on some extrapolation, I think you could write "honor above all" as "ære fremfor alt" - an acceptable translation with a possibly wonky verb form. I would ask around a little more before getting it done in ink.

OOOOOOOOO, cool. I'd ideally like the danish to be from around 800ce lol, but thats unlikely. Basically thats where the danes mixed with the irish to create my clan.
I will look into your suggestion valk, thanks very much.
Just to clarify as i've had pm's. When i say i understand the meaning of the tattoo i mean that by having it inked into my flesh i am oathing myself to Odin, not that i am rightwing or other such associations as i have a mixed race nephew, so please stop with the mails and pm's now.

Frith Lion Is it not a bit silly that you have had PM's like that and have been forced to defend yourself? I read what you wrote as representative of someone who holds Honour in high regard and as a Germanic Heathen so you should, it's not like you were planning to have "Loyalty is my Honour " which is the SS motto tattooed on yourself. I see no association with what you want with the far-right! Are we to say any statement about Honour from a Heathen is right-wing? I don't get it! Anyway goodluck with the Tattoo and I hope you will show us a pic?

There are many within heathenry that see any oathing to Odin as right-wing or extreme. A shame really, as i think Odin is a very misunderstood bloke lol. It's not the wording people have a problem with, it's the valknot. Alas many rightwing groups use the valknot quite a lot as tattoos, usually with wording that can be read only one way.
Again our faiths symbols being used for extremist reasons, giving the wider world the wrong impression again. I usually try and explain if people ask about my valknot or mjollnir pendants, and they go away understanding the difference.
I just wanted to make it clear as i know we have some members with views not my own.

But as Heathens they should know better. They should understand the symbol and what it means within the context of heathenry not politics. All Heathen symbols can be connected to the rightwing, where does it end? But again Heathens should be able to dis-associate themselves from the hubris commited by the Nazis and those Heathens who would hold them in high regard. Especially regarding an individual who quite clearly doesn't have any right-wing connections. People seem hung up on this. You shouldn't have to. And those with differing views should be wise enough to see something for what it is and not for what it isn't.

Anybody who assumes that your symbols are right wing and political are themselves showing their ignorance of another's culture. If you simply point out what those sacred symbols actually are and they still wish to rely upon their own ignorant assumptions and preconceived notions, you get to accuse them of hatred. Turn the tables and play them at their own game, it's the only thing that stops some people.
