We've been out all day sorting a shinny new home for our lastest family members ;D *rats just love em, sooooooo cute*, so i only caught this on the 6pm news. To say i could be heard down the road is being polite.
I am 200% against this idea suggestion or even mear mention of introducing Sharia law over here. Yes it will drive a bigger wedge between the various cultures in the UK, and frankly we have far too many laws over here as it is, we dont need more.
This is a christian country!. If i went over to a muslim country and tried this i'd be stoned, beaten, whipped n even slippered to death.
Dont mistake this as racism, it isnt!. A very old friend of mine is muslim, again a devout one, but also a western one, his folks wanted him this way so he could benefit from both cultures, he wouldnt want this for pretty much the same reasons i've given.
*interesting topic, Any racist replies will not be toleranted end of!!!, we all have our views of which we are entitle but keep it civil/sensible adult.

Again I reiterate, that this IS NOT in any way a racist thread. I started it because I'm very much anti racist I think in this glorious country we take our freedoms for granted, and the licience to speak our minds as we see fit and to be religous as we wish without interference or harracement from anyone. That I fully support and applaud. That is the law which I support. If any form of religion is involved in the influence of law THAT IS WRONG !!!, if you disagree with me fine that is your choise, if you wish to take a step beyond, I'll see you on the mats ! ;D
As an Asatrurer, I recognise Wyrd and the right of all to be who they are the way they wish to be.

I don't agree with sharia law as being part of our law system either. British law should be flexible enough to distinguish crime from belief. It doesn't need religious influence, merely clear thinking and well thought out decision etc etc etc

Has the political pendulum swung to far in the 'liberal' direction ? and is ther a need to review politically correct idealism ?

I think "politically correct idealism" has done a lot of damage to this country really, as well as to other nations in Europe from what i'm hearing. Though i'm not against immigration as such, or freedom of religion, i have come more and more to believe in the idea (which i think the French favour) of assimilation, as opposed to the "salad bowl" approach to immigrant communities we've tended to favour in the past. Our "old model" has simply created ghettos along ethnic lines in our cities with horrendous mistrust, paranoia and conflict between communities being the result - thus people are wanting their own "mini-states" within the wider state, with their own laws etc, since effectively they are pretty much cut off from the wider community of whichever part of Britain they happen to live in. I don't think we should encourage this. Plus, it plays right into the hands of the neo-nazi "send them all back" brigade and the less grist we provide for their particular political mill the better (though i think Syg's already mentioned that issue).

I am not sure that I would regard this as a Christian country. It has a lot of Christians in it but if the Christian bishops have their say in the House of Lords and much of our law is based on Christian thinking then they (or anyone) can't really say that it shouldn't happen because it is a "Christian" country. Christianity could now be seen as being threatened by a new (to these shores) religion from the desert then terms like just deserts springs to mind. Maybe we should remove all laws about religion and just let people do as they wish as long as they stay within the laws of the land.

Agreed. The law shouldn't be biased towards or against one particular religious group or another.

I started it because I'm very much anti racistSyg It alway's kind of bothers me when any discussion revolving around other culture's/religions and any reasonable criticism of them has to include disclaimers. I know there are plenty of folk, who will jump on such crititicism as indication of racism, but they are indeed the facists attempting to stifle reasonable debate and freespeech. Sad really that those who would condemn, only really need to look into the mirror to see what they fear!
